About Us: The Crossword Café is a Youth Center located at 947 N Second Street in the heart of Downtown Chillicothe, IL. The Café was founded as a non-profit organization in August 2001 by a group of individuals representing our local churches and community organizations. Our mission is to provide a safe place for teens in the community to gather, have fun, and experience Christ in a positive environment. The Café has pool tables, ping pong, video games, musical instruments, and offers creative programs like art, tutoring, and music lessons. The Café is generally open to teens on school day afternoons/evenings. The evening sessions often include a meal and faith centered group discussion.

Position Details: The Café Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the Café mission is being achieved. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. A majority of the work will need to be in person at the facility. However, some of this work will require travel in the Chillicothe vicinity, or can be completed at home/remotely. This is a salaried position

Job Summary
The Youth Director plays a pivotal role in fostering a supportive and engaging environment for young individuals within our community. This position is responsible for developing and implementing programs that promote personal growth, spiritual development, and community involvement. The Youth Director will work closely with children and their families, providing guidance, support, and resources to help them navigate various life challenges. Of upmost importance is sharing the Gospel with the kids we encounter!

Responsibilities

- Maintain and enact facility Mission, Vision, and Values.

- Work with the board of directors to set yearly goals and objectives. Use these items to create a 3–5-year facility plan to join with God as he works in Chillicothe and the surrounding areas.

- Maintain a functional budget for the facility.

- Create and maintain facility policies/procedures.

- Ensure staffing when the café is open. This includes attending 8 - 10 hours of open times per week.

- Recruit, develop and manage our network of volunteer staff, ministry partners, and community contacts.

- Represent the Café in our community through outreach to our churches, schools, business and civic groups.

- Develop and maintain programs for marketing, creative events, and activities.

- Oversee and assign duties to the Assistant Director. This includes 6-month performance reviews.

- Provide monthly report to the Crossword Café Board of Directors. This position will not include board membership.

- Perform other duties as they arise.

Education & Experience:

- High School Diploma required.

- College education is desirable.

- Experience in Church activities & programs.

- Non-Profit & Volunteering experience

- Experience in education or tutoring.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills:

- Works well with teenagers and adults.

- Experience with social media desirable.

- Good organizational skills.

- Good written & verbal communication skills.

Pay: $41,715.00 - $50,000.00 per year

About Crossword Cafe

The CrossWord Cafe/Chillicothe Youth Center was founded in August 2001 by individuals from several area churches, civic leaders and community organizations. Our staff’s focus is to build positive relationships with students grade 6-12 through mentoring, tutoring, teaching, discussion groups and just hanging out. We are a drop in center offering many opportunities for staff to connect with students and their families. Our mission is to give every teen in our community an opportunity to experience Christ in a non-threatening environment.
