Announcement:

Valley Christian Fellowship is looking for God’s choice for a new Senior Pastor. The current Senior Pastor is taking a new position with the Northwest Baptist Convention after a 20 year tenure at Valley.

Calling:

Valley is looking for a Senior Pastor called to Cowlitz County with a heart for the lost. A person that can lead Valley in their vision and mission.

Vision:Becoming an example of Jesus, living by faith and sharing His hope and love.

Mission: “Meeting people where they are; learning to enjoy God and others; and helping people experience God’s purpose for their lives.

Background:

Valley is a Southern Baptist Church body with between 300 and 550 believers gathering on any given weekend. Valley has an Elder-led and staff-run management system for day-to-day activities. The current staff includes three professional staff (including Senior Pastor), two administrative staff, one janitorial staff. Additionally, there are four volunteer staff members, and numerous volunteer-led ministries. The congregation votes on the calling of the senior pastor, annual budget, and sale/acquisition of property. The current annual operational budget for the church is $550K.

Worship services are provided live at three separate locations on Saturday and Sunday each week. Additionally, services are recorded and provided to four other location services during the weekend. Valley’s heart is for the lost of Cowlitz County. As such, the body is greatly involved in ministries that directly affect their community.

FORWARD: There is the call of God to the individual, to be “set apart” as God’s servant in ministry, and there is the validating, corporate call of Valley Christian Fellowship to the one who has been called and anointed by God for this ministry to and with our body of Christ. This special ministry was demonstrated and taught by Jesus who is: a Prophet, Priest and Wise Ruler over His bride the church.

Therefor a senior pastor is called to be a:

  • Leader
  • Preacher
  • Trainer
  • Teacher
  • Challenger
  • Initiator
  • Counselor
  • Guide.

He will work with many other members of the body who will also minister one to another, the community and the world for Christ our Lord.

The Senior Pastor will be accountable to our Lord for leading and equipping the members of Valley Christion Fellowship in the discernment of our vision statement of “becoming an example of Jesus, living by faith and sharing His hope and love” and the implementation of our mission of “meeting people where they are, learning to enjoy God and others, and helping people experience God’s purpose for their lives

 

Therefore the key job elements are to:

  • Lead Elders, Deacons, and Teams in vision discernment and in long range and short term planning and execution of their task by consulting, advising, coordinating and evaluating.
  • The senior pastor will provide leadership to part time and full time staff serving as the team leader and functioning as a coach/player. The senior pastor supervises staff, develops staff, holds staff accountable for performance goals and works to create a safe and nurturing environment for healthy relationships.
  • The senior pastor leads Valley in glorifying Jesus through worship by working with staff and volunteers to provide opportunities for the body to Glorify God.  As we Gather in worship He will share God’s word through:
  • Preaching
  • Worship leadership
  • Administering Ordinances (Baptism)
  • Officiating ( weddings and funerals of church members)
  • The senior pastor equips the body for ministry by:
  • Teaching (bible centered studies and new member classes)(Growing)
  • Training leaders (Growing)
  • Leads in Valley’s evangelistic and discipleship training (providing for training so that Valley’s followers of Jesus will be equipped to share and also make new disciples) (Grow and Go)
  • The senior pastor will work to enable the congregation to provide care for itself by training and encouraging the members of Valley to care for each other as an example of their love for Jesus.(Grow and Go)
  • He will lead the church in relationship to participation in our denominational efforts with in our community, state, and region.
  • He will invest time into his own personal growth through reading Gods word, Praying and personal worship.

Character:

 

Qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:6-9:

 

  • Above Reproach--Not perfect but drama doesn’t follow him
  • Husband of One wife--Must be faithful to his wife, adoring her and doesn’t flirt with other women.
  • Self-Control--Must be self-aware and in control of his behavior.
  • Lives Wisely--He makes good choices.
  • Has a Good Reputation--People at the Church and in the community think highly of him.
  • Hospitable--His home is open to others.
  • He can Teach--Gifted with insight into the scriptures and communicates those insights well.
  • Not Addicted to Wine-- Doesn’t get drunk or over-indulge in alcohol.
  • Not Violent--He resolves conflict peacefully.
  • Gentle--His manner and words are not abrasive.
  • Loves Peace--Works towards peace in every relationship he encounters.
  • Manages his home well--seeks Spiritual balance relationally and financially.
  • Not a new Christian--He has a proven experience as a faithful follower of Jesus.
  • Not Arrogant--Humble, Thinking of others first, having a servant’s heart.
  • A strong and steadfast belief--A conviction in the gospel that does not waver.
